Logged five clips very short clips (ranging in length from 00:01:50;88 to 00:02:26;88) from a series entitled Los Angeles Scenics #1 (Westwood Cemetery, Bel Air, Venice). Pretty basic video stuff of people doing what they do on sunny days at Venice Beach. It was as much about learning the format of the spreadsheet Oddball uses, boiling the clips down to their core elements in the form of a synopsis, Subject Category (using a controlled vocabulary), and keywords. And, of course, getting used to using Quicktime, since I've always preferred VLC. But VLC don't do exactly what needs to be done, and Quicktime is what they use, so Quicktime it is.
Going forward, I suspect one of the big challenges will be striking the proper balance in the synopses; they say that "We like a fairly detailed synopsis but not overly wordy," and heaven knows can be wordy (overly and otherwise) if I'm not too careful. On the plus side I'm pretty good at note-taking while watching movies -- indeed, I've taken more and better notes this past year screening movies as a professional critic than I ever did when I was in high school or even as an undergrad -- so I'm less worried about missing important things as I am about distilling it down to what will best aid future researchers and clients.
